WQ #28: What kinds of gifts do you give to your loved ones during Christmas? How do you choose what to give?

Like T. Julie, I ask them what they want and if I can afford it (sometimes they sort of ask for the impossible, like a new car. lol) then I go ahead and buy it for them. Yup, it does sound boring, but at least you know that your gift will be greatly appreciated. ;P

This Christmas my son's asking for a PSP-3000 (PlayStation Portable) and hubby and I will be getting him one. Last year he asked for a Wii and it was a wonderful blessing that my blogging money was sufficient enough to buy it for him. Good thing the PSP's cheaper (LOL) since my blogging money has declined because I haven't had the chance to go online as much as I want to. No time looking around for opportunities. That's life. :D

As for hubby and I? I don't know ... I haven't asked him yet. ;P

Have you already started your holiday shopping? I haven't. I know, I should be starting already, but I just don't have the time; most probably it's going to be hubby who will do most of the holiday shopping these coming days. I don't think we'll be buying lots of stuffs, anyway, like last year. Yup, because of the financial crunch (lol) but also because most of our friends have moved; changed jobs, and migrated to another country, mostly. I miss them, but there's not much I can do about it. The memories they left behind are just so precious. :)

Do you know that there's a contest going on regarding your shopping experience? You don't believe me? Then do check out this YouTube post:

Interested? Then what are you waiting for? Go ahead and join!:)

Bingeing ...

0 shared thoughts
I know that after the holidays I will be needing a treadmill, or something similar! lol. Yup, I just know that I will be eating lots this Christmas since we plan to visit my MIL for the holidays. They usually have loads of food prepared, specially during special occasions, and so expect me to be bingeing! Well, honestly, I know I shouldn't and I will try my hardest not to.

I wouldn't bet on that, though. :D

Hubby and I have been thinking of a business that would sustain us, and at the same time does not require that he travel so much. I guess it would be something similar to a home business. I do know though, that he enjoys traveling (like what he does with his current job), so getting another job is out of the question for now. :)

Magnetic Charm ...

0 shared thoughts
I heard that magnetic bracelets are supposed to be good for one's health. Am not so sure about that, though I did buy one pair while we were in the mall. It got me curious, I guess. But, am not sure if it does have any health benefits for me since I haven't gotten the habit of wearing it. My sister does, though (she also got one for herself), and she says it helps. :)

Better be safe ...

When my aunt went traveling she wanted to contact a certain Chicago accident attorney since she wanted to be sure she was covered if ever something wrong would happen while she was on the road. She is the type of person who wants to be sure about things before proceeding and I think it turned out well for her. It's a good thing that nothing bad happened, but like what she said, "better be safe than sorry!" :)

Truck Driver Friend

I once encountered a guy online who was passionate about photography (we "met" at a photo site) but he felt like he wanted to do something different, so he got a job as a truck driver. The type of trucks that are really huge, you know? Kind of like the ones which my son calls as the "monster trucks"! Am not so sure if he attended a CDL training, but I do know that he is living his dream right now. He still posts some pictures, and they are just awesome ... specially the sceneries.

I wonder how he's doing right now. It has been ages since I have logged in to my account at that photo site.

I used to wonder how to lose weight, so diet pills like Orovo came to mind. However, these couple or so of months I know I have been losing weight. Not because of any pills, but because I have taken to eating less than what I normally ate before. lol. Nope, didn't plan this; it just happened. Honestly, I don't mind, as long as my body is still healthy. And I hope it stays that way! :)

WQ #27: What are the special things that you look forward to every Sunday?

I love weekends ( i love Saturdays more than Sundays since it just means that i can still sleep late the next day! lol) since it's that time of the week where we can all relax. It means quality family time, too. Though sometimes hubby goes to work on Saturdays, on Sundays he's usually around (except when he's on one of his out-of-town trips).

Sometimes Sunday is the time when we go to the mall, too. Our favorite hang-out is the Cyberzone, where we look around for our favorite gadgets or shop for something like video cards. :)

that's food brought by hubby when they ate at Chili's a while back ... tasted ok. though honestly not that spectacular. lol. still, it's good food. :)

Would love to cook something like this ... i occasionally cook spaghetti (my fave is spaghetti in puttanesca sauce) but haven't tried this type of noodles yet.

One of these days ... ;P

On Saving ...

I have been wearing eyeglasses since I was eleven years old, and believe me, I have been through quite a few pairs already. My parents helped me choose the frames in the beginning, but after a couple or so of years I had to rely on my own. Of course I am interested in what my eyeglasses would look like, but not really that much. I was really more concerned with how much each frame (the whole eyeglasses, actually) costs. My family and I are not poor, but it always helps to know that you have helped save some money.

Just like in the article written by Gregory Karp (article is here: http://www.chicagotribune.com/business/yourmoney/chi-ym-spending-0722jul22,0,2050256.story), the price range for eyeglasses these days are astonishing. It's a good thing that there are sites like ZenniOptical.com where you can find affordable eyepieces! I haven't tried them yet, but am sure that one of these days I will! I have read some great reviews about them, and have even visited their site. I like the different types of frames that they are offering, which are affordable.

What about you? Want to be practical and save money (like a lot of people out there, am sure!)? Then do try ZenniOptical.com and check them out yourself! :)

... most of the time.

Yup, am not connected to the internet most of the time these days since my computer's quite far from the wifi source in the house and so getting a signal here in the room has always been like "come and go". It gets to be tiring at times .. but what can I do, huh?! Am lucky i have connection right now! ;P

I do get to have the time to dabble with some of my pictures, though ... :)

Being prepared ...

0 shared thoughts
These days we really should be taking better care of our health ... not just because it's quite expensive to get medical care, but also because it's so inconvenient! lol. Of course, it's a good idea to try and look around for reliable and affordable health insurance quotes, too. Even if you're not sick right now (and lets hope it stays that way!), it's always a good idea to be prepared ... :)

Weekly Question (# 23-26)

WQ #26: How do you pursue peace in your life?

Admittedly, that's kind of a tough question for me. I try to pursue peace in my life and it is a constant struggle. lol. What I do is just not to be affected so much by the daily challenges (yeah, even small things sometimes gets to me ... sigh) and if ever I encounter situations wherein I can't do much (or anything) about it, then I try to accept it as it is. Then think no more if it, if possible. I try, too, to be content with what I have (except for my cameras and it's lenses, LOL) and instead strive to be more understanding and patient. :)

WQ #25: Who is the most annoying person that you (have been unfortunate to) have met in person?

Oh my ... when I was younger I had this supposedly "unending hatred" to another person because she was sooo bossy! Wherever I'd go she'd be there, telling me to do this and to do that. But as I got older (which, unfortunately, wasn't soon enough in my opinion), I realized that she was only guiding me; helping me become a much better person. :)
Sure, I still meet some annoying persons every now and then, but I try to pass them off as people who, like me, also needs guidance.

WQ #24: Who among your dearly departed hold(s) a special place in your heart?

I honestly don't know ...
My family and I lived far from our cousins so we grew up not really being that close to them. Sure, we had our usual summer visits but seeing each other rarely didn't give us any chance to be really close. My best friends are still around, too, and I am fortunate enough to be still having my parents with us (they are both almost 80yrs old now ...) and I hope it stays that way for a long long time! :)
... unless you can consider the death of Steve Irwin .. it affected me much. Another good soul who left us .... good thing there are other similarly minded individuals around, like Jeff Corwin (he's cute! lol).

WQ #23: What comes to your mind and what do you feel about the lyrics of the song “Welcome To My Life” by Simple Plan?

Simply another person asking for help ... :)
Not necessarily the singer, of course. Or the writer. lol.

That's my sister's family pet and his name's Paltik. He's not particularly fond of cameras, specially if it makes those clicking sounds. lol. Thank goodness for 12x optical zooms! :)

Nowadays it's important that we get the best value for our money, so hubby and I would like to find the cheapest auto insurance we can find once we do decide on getting a new car. Yup, we haven't decided yet since there are currently more pressing matters that need our attention. Besides, we still have another car, though it is not new. lol.

The PINK Sisterhood Meme

1 shared thoughts

I’ve been tagged by Leah to do this meaningful tag. It’s a meme highlighting the threat of breast cancer and how important it is to practice early detection procedures like self breast examination.

* One in eight women or 12.6% of all women will get breast cancer in her lifetime.
* Breast cancer risk increases with age and every woman is at risk.
* Every 13 minutes a woman dies of breast cancer.
* Seventy-seven percent of women with breast cancer are over 50.
* Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in women between the ages of 15 and 54, and the second cause of cancer death in women 55 to 74.
* Risks for breast cancer include a family history, atypical hyperplasia, early menstruation (before age 12), late menopause (after age 55), current use or use in the last ten years of oral contraceptives, and daily consumption of alcohol.
* Early detection of breast cancer, through monthly breast self-exam and particularly yearly mammography after age 40, offers the best chance for survival.
Facts taken from Women’s Health
